What are Graphic organizers? Graphic organizers are visual displays that depict the relationships between facts, terms and/or ideas within a learning task. They form a powerful visual picture of the information and this allows the mind to discover patterns and relationships which it might have otherwise missed. It uses visual symbols to covey meaning. Graphic organizers are also called concept maps, concept diagrams, story maps etc. Benefits of using graphic organizers 1. Facilitates learning by presenting the most complete picture of all the available facts and all the potential relationships that could develop between them. 2. Graphic organizers are great for reviewing or revising a topic because they provide clear visual representations of information that is pertinent to a topic rather than lots of dense, confusing notes on specific concepts which can frustrate students especially when preparing for exams. Re: canthony
Just thought about saving time during teaching practice. Using Graphic Organizers can save teachers from having to write excessively on the board so they have more time to engage students in discussion, monitor students etc.
I am a visual learner so I quicker remember images than script. I could see a graphic organizer in my brain during an exam but never a page of notes.lol.

Re: JChicotLouisy
You've just given me something else to think about i.e. graphic organizers for sequencing or hierarchical order. I need to do research on that because I am only familiar with graphic organizers which establish relationships between concepts but there is not set order of prominence between the concepts. Again thanks!

You have discussed some very important uses or benefits of the graphic organizer in the content areas. In addition to the list you have provided I want to add the following: 1. graphic organizer aids in the writing process by supporting the concepts of planning and revising 2. it actively engages the learner in the teaching learning experience, thereby allowing students to construct their own learning rather than passively taking in information dispensed by the teacher Well done folks

Graphic Organizers are templates in which information is entered to simplify text and concepts in order to retain it. Three Benefits of Graphic organizers: 1) it is a great learning tool for visual and tactile learners since it is a visual representation and because they are grouping and writing the information on their own
2) it can be used as a pre-reading, during reading, or assessment tool
3) they can be used to summarize concepts and making studying less stressful

A graphic organizer is a visual representation of the material a student is learning. The organizer assists students in brainstorming and/or organizing information to make it easier to understand how ideas connect, which in turn helps in retention of information.
Three benefits of graphic organizers include: 1) They give students the opportunity to see how concepts or ideas are connected. 2) They assist the student in gaining a fuller grasp of the content through visually depicting the main aspects 3) They are very student- centred, allowing students to be greatly involved in their own learning

Graphic organizers are constructions or reconstructions of conceptual organizations or patterns in logical diagrams.
Three benefits of Graphic organizers are:
1. They promote creativity and critical thinking. When created by students, they illustrate how how students carefully and analytically selected a way in which ideas can be represented in a graphical manner.
2. It is a very easy way fro teachers to examine students' thoughts about a concept. Teachers gain an insight as to how well students understand the concept and they know or have grasped about the concept.
3. It ads in retention. The information in Graphic Organizers are not as bulky as notes in a book and are created by students. Therefore, students are not bombarded with notes to remember but have a simple diagram with information which they came up with.
